Apples Custom MicroLED Displays Are Probably Coming to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, after the technology appears in a new version of the Apple Watch Ultra that is currently slated to launch by the end of 2024, Apple is likely intending to offer unique microLED displays to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Gurman claimed in the most recent issue of his Power On newsletter that Apple has invested around six years in creating microLED technology for what will be the first display that was made specifically for the firm, echoing its efforts on Apple silicon. Gurman stated earlier this week that Apple will launch the display technology in 2024 along with a new Apple Watch Ultra.

According to reports, Apple began working on the T159 microLED project in 2017. The display is meant to replace current components made by suppliers like Samsung and LG and offer increased brightness, color reproduction, and viewing angles that will make images appear more "painted" on the display glass.

Gurman anticipates Apple's proprietary microLED displays will first appear in the Apple Watch Ultra in 2024, then maybe move on to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac at a later time. He thinks Apple's long-term strategy is to include microLED displays into all of its core products, but given the intricacy of the technology at this nascent stage, it might take a decade before it appears in the Mac. By the time OLED panels are anticipated for the iPad, Gurman pointed out that the iPhone would have had them for more than six years.
