Discreet 2023 hardware releases from Apple will feature a Mac Pro with fixed memory

A New Mac Pro that resembles the 2019 model but lacks user-upgradable RAM will be the highlight of Apple's modest 2023 upgrade range.The typical improvements to various lines will be included in the 2023 product catalog, along with the potential mixed-reality headgear. 

One highly anticipated upgrade, meanwhile, might not be as significant a shift as consumers might assume.It has already been reported that the Mac Pro, the final Mac in the Apple product lineup to only be available with Intel chips, lacks a high-performance M2 Extreme chip. 

That might not be the model's lone setback, according to Mark Gurman's "Power On" weekly for Bloomberg.

The Mac Pro will reportedly "look identical" to the 2019 model, complete with its cheese grater design and user-upgradable components, and will be powered by an M2 Ultra CPU. However, it is asserted that memory won't be among the user-changeable components because it is allegedly connected to the motherboard directly and cannot be taken out or altered.

Nevertheless, there will still be two SSD storage spaces and additional slots for enhancing or changing networking, media, and graphics features. It remains to be seen if this degree of upgradeability will be sufficient to deter people from purchasing the potent Mac Studio.

Various MacBooks and Macs

A new iMac Pro has also been speculated to be released with the Mac Pro, but Gurman would be surprised if it did so in 2023. It's possible that a 24-inch iMac specification bump upgrade won't happen until an M3 chip is available, which won't be until late 2023 or early 2024.

Updates to the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will also be included in the limited lineup, although it is anticipated that the features and design will remain the same. The M2 Pro and M2 Max variants' chips will change, although Gurman suggests they may only represent "marginal leaps" above their M1 equivalents.

Regarding upcoming Mac models, Gurman describes the 15-inch MacBook Air as the lineup's "saving grace" while also claiming that a 12-inch MacBook is "no longer on Apple's near-term road map."

Apple Watch, iPad, AirPods, and HomePod

There is rumor that larger iPad models are in development but won't be released until after 2023. If they arrive at all, updates to the iPad mini, iPad Air, and entry-level iPad will reportedly be typical spec upgrades.

The first part of 2024 is reportedly when the iPad Pro updates will be released. Even though it's still a ways off, a source claims the models will have a fresh look and OLED panels.

The publication makes similar predictions for other facets of Apple's empire. Gurman says that he doesn't expect significant improvements to the Apple Watch in 2023, "except for some small performance boosts."

A new Apple TV launch appears to be unplanned, and AirPods may not receive any "updates of note" this year either.

It appears that the larger HomePod size will return, but it won't be a revolutionary change. Expect a lower pricing point, a redesigned touch control panel, and the S8 chip, according to Gurman.
